Mark 5:23 – Part 4: My Jesus

There is a person we need to look at in this story that we haven’t paid too much attention too recently, and that is Jesus. My Jesus.

It got to the point in my life where I realised I was the person who needed the miracle. I needed them pretty much most of the time. When I began to spiritually grow up, there was something in my heart that stirred me. I no longer wanted to be Jairus all the time, going from miracle to miracle (although that is great, don’t misunderstand me), I wanted to be the man that Jairus came too.

Before you cry heresy, let me explain what I mean.

I went to a meeting one night that was several hours from my house. I had been conducting meetings myself during that week, and this particular night, I had off, and I wanted to go and sit in this other meeting and just receive some good things from the Lord.

At the start of that meeting, I noticed a young girl coming in who was being supported by two other women. She was obviously very sick. Turns out she had cancer. She wore a hat to hide the hair loss, and used her friends as she was too weak to walk.

As she walked past, God spoke to me very clearly. He said, “I am going to heal her tonight.” Well, I shot upright – kind of surprised at what He said. I told a couple of the people sitting with me.

Well, the preacher came and preached – it was a great message, and the anointing of God was very powerful in that meeting. The Holy Spirit began to move, and people started to get healed. On the other side of the building (it was quite large), I noticed one of the girls who was one of the “supports” for the sick girl, talking to the minister. To this day, I do not know how I heard that conversation, but I did. Being a PA man at church, I know about sound and microphones – and I don’t recall seeing one with the minister, he had put it down I believe when he started to pray for people. I may be wrong, I may be right. All I know is – I heard that conversation.

I grabbed some of the guys around me and told them that we needed to be on the other side of the building to see the miracle that was about to take place. We all ran as fast as we could, and as we were running, they brought the sick lady to him. I remember this was the first time I had ever classed myself as a pew hopper! I jumped those chairs to get to the other side of the building.

When I got there the minister laid hands on the sick girl, and the two ladies that were supporting her almost became hysterical. So the minister stopped praying for the young lady, and prayed for the two “supports” who consequently fell out in the Spirit and stopped being hysterical!

The minister then continued to pray for the sick girl. And again, to this day, I swear I saw that tumour literally fall off her body! She got healed right there in front of me – I mean, I was inches away from her when it happened! It was one of the most amazing things that I have ever seen.

Well, we all started shouting, you would too in that situation. I decided that I would have this minister pray for me. When he laid hands on me – my whole body turned into jelly. Me and the Spirit of God were having a big time.

I asked God why He told me what was going to happen at the start of the meeting. He replied, “Matt, I want to get you to a place where people hear that you are in town and they bring the sick knowing that I will heal them.” You see this minister is very well known in Christian circles. The people knew that God worked miracles through him, and he was their access to God for that miracle.

Jairus needed a miracle, and he went to Jesus.

That girl needed a miracle, and she too went to Jesus, but Jesus’ representative was that minister. That minister was the hands of Jesus to that sick lady.

God has called me to be that minister too. I have made my mind up, when I need what Jairus needed, I’ll do what Jairus did. But I don’t want to live my life needing miracle after miracle, I want to come to a place in God where people who want miracles come to me because they see me as the representative of Jesus, and God is doing those kind of things through me.

I want to be the answer to someone’s pray.

Yes, put yourself in the position of Jairus. Do what he did and you will get what he did. But don’t stop there. Put yourself in the position of Jesus too. You be the person that Jairus comes to when he has to have the power of God move in his life. I think that is what Christianity is all about. It is about showing Jesus to this world, and being like him. When people see you they should see Jesus.

Somebody said to me once: “Matt – you are the only Jesus that some people will ever see.” I’ll never forget it, and it changed the way I thought and lived.

Since being at that meeting what God said to me has begun to come to pass! It is certainly not to the degree that I would like yet, but it is beginning to come to pass glory to God!

So in these verses, pay particular attention to both Jairus, and to Jesus. Watch them both so you can learn from them!
