New tutorial: Colour (color) popping a black and white image in photoshop

This is a simple and easy-to-use technique for adding sections of colour (color) to a black and white image in photoshop. This is a powerful technique that anyone can do to create some fantastic images.

Part 6 – Sharpening and the Unsharp Mask in Photoshop

Bringing this photoshop tutorial to a close, we look at the unsharp mask and add some sharpening to our final image before sending off to the printer! I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial on creating a mono conversion in photoshop and might even be tempted yourself to dig out a few old photos and give them a new lease of life by converting them to black and white!

Part 5 – Dodging and Burning Photoshop Tutorial

Our image is nearing the end of creation – so there are a few final tweaks to make, this one being done using the dodge and burn tools to give the image a little more depth and texture.

So – in this, part 4 of the tutorial – I’ll show you how to use Curves and adjustment layers in photoshop to dodge and burn the image to bring out the brightness and contrast of the image. Curves for some reason are tricky at the start but become easier the more you play with them.

In this part of the tutorial – we look at using Photoshop’s Channel Mixer to create the mono conversion of the building. Often the channel mixer is overlooked, and there may be better conversion tools in CS3 – but for those of us still in Photoshop CS2 – it is a great tool for bringing out a great black and white image

Using Layer Masks to add the sky in photoshop

One of the first things we need to do to this image is add a little more drama to the sky. To do this – we need to add some clouds by blending 2 images together. The best way to do this is using layer masks, and in this tutorial – I’ll show you how to make extremely accurate selections to blend two images together in Photoshop using Layer masks.

Mono Conversion in Photoshop Tutorial

I have created a few screen cast to show how I created the mono conversion of the Liver building in Liverpool using Photoshop CS2, Layer Masks, the Channel Mixer, Curves, Dodging & Burning and then finally a little sharpening.

HDR image using Photomatix and Photoshop Video Tutorialp

To create this image of Liverpool Lime Street train station, I used the Photomatix software for the HDR (high dynamic range) conversion and then finished of in Photoshop. This short video tutorial shows you how I set up and converted the image in Photomatix and some of the things that had to be fixed in Photoshop. It is great if you want a quick look at HDR as well as Photomatix.
